4 Ways to Explore Maths at Home

There are many ways to explore maths at home. As a mother and a teacher, I look for a variety of ways to use learning through play activities to enjoy maths.

Read the 4 activities below for you to implement maths at home:

1. Count household items

Encourage your little one to count different items such as:

  • Spoons

  • Pencils

  • Socks

  • Fruit

2. Water play

Fill a large bowl with water and place bottle tops in the bowl of water. Then your little once can use their hands or a spoon to take the bottle tops out and count them. Your child can also place the bottle tops in two separate containers and compare quantities.

3. Explore the size of your children’s toys

This is a fun activity to explore the language of size. You can find big, medium and small toys to discuss size. Goldilocks and the Three Bears is a lovely example to explore and compare size.

4. Role playing shops

Playing shops is a great way to explore money with your little one. Make a mini shop at home, create price tags and discuss how much an item costs.

Have fun exploring maths at home!
