Getting back into the routine

It’s the first official two weeks back to nursery, preschool and school. I will be the first to admit it, returning to the routine has not been easy!

Re-adjusting to early nights, early mornings, breakfast clubs and after school clubs. I’m sure there’s lots more! However, I want to share with you 3 tips that I implement to ease back into the routine.

1- Prepare and plan ahead

I know it’s easier said than done but if you plan, it helps you and your family to see what is ahead.

  • Iron the school uniform/PE kit in advance and hang it up ready for the week ahead.

  • Pack the school bags the night before and check for school letters etc

  • Write a loose schedule or timetable, so you can visually share with your family what you will do day by day. However, this may change according to the needs of your household.

2- Talk about the evenings with your little one

Discussing and sharing the evening routine helps your child to know what to do before bedtime.

  • On the way home, I ask Joshua “what activity would you like to do?”

  • Explain your expectations for the evening

  • Talk about dinner time and bath time

3- Do something fun!

It can be very busy during the week with school and work. Therefore, try and find time to have a little fun.

  • Find an activity that you can look forward to doing with your little one. Such as playing a game of snap.

  • Ask your child if they want to do an exciting independent activity

  • Plan a little weekend adventure such as going to your favourite park or a local walk.

  • Enjoy chill time at home

I understand that timing plays a big factor with our daily routine. There will be days that your routine will go according to plan and there will be days that it will not. It happens and that's okay. Take each day as it comes.
